Nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Kadir Khan has died at the age of 85 in Islamabad.

Nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan died in Islamabad on Sunday morning at the age of 85.

According to Radio Pakistan he was admitted to a local hospital where his health deteriorated in the early morning. Pakistan Television said the nuclear scientist died after being transferred hospital with a lungs problems.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said Dr.  Abdul Qadeer Khan was loved by the people for his critical contribution to making Pakistan a nuclearweapon state. “This kept us safe from our aggressive, much larger nuclear neighbor. For the people of Pakistan, he was a national icon, he said. President Dr. Arif Alvi said he has known Dr. Khan personally since 1982. He helped us develop nuclear deterrence to save the nation, and the grateful nation will not forget his services in this regard, he said.
